Chapter 4 Mrs. Cornell Is Causing a Fuss
Seeing that, Conner quickly took over the keys and took over the role of their driver.
Alison opened the door to the pa**enger seat and entered the car without sparing Brayden a glance.
Conner was scared stiff. He feared that she might suddenly blurt another ridiculous statement.
At that thought, he stammered, “Mrs. Cornell, should—”
“Start the car,” Alison uttered indifferently.
After glancing at the rearview mirror to find his boss unresponsive, he drove out of the parking lot.
The whole car ride was silent, leaving Conner nearly suffocated from the tense atmosphere.
Even though his boss and Alison didn’t utter a word, he could feel the chilly auras they exuded.
He knew what his boss’ usual temper was like, but why did Mrs. Cornell’s mood suddenly shift so drastically?!
Despite feeling suffocated, Conner kept it to himself.
Brayden sat in the back seat, staring silently at the woman in the pa**enger seat. There was an emotional change evident in his eyes that even he failed to notice.
Half an hour later, the car was parked at the entrance of the hospital.
Brayden grabbed Alison’s wrist with his strong hands while dragging her to the VIP ward.
“Mr. Cornell.” His grip was so hard that it hurt her, so she couldn’t help mocking him, “If you keep dragging me around like that, I’ll sue you for intentional injury before I’m even convicted.”
Hearing that, Brayden loosened his grip on her to realize that her fair wrist had turned red due to the force he exerted on her.
Alison gave him a side-eye.
Feeling uneasy under her stare, Brayden felt a little guilty for her, but as soon as he recalled that she was the mastermind behind Julia’s car accident, that feeling instantly dissipated.
“Come with me.” He looked away and strode toward Julia’s ward.
As soon as he opened the door, Julia, who was seated on the bed, smiled widely. “Hi, Brayden,” she called out in a gentle and yearning tone.
Brayden quickened his pace to hug her.
Alison entered the ward after him.
Watching the two being lovey-dovey with each other, she snickered, “Should I stay outside until you’re done flirting with each other?”
“M-Miss Lambert… Please don’t misunderstand us. Brayden and I are innocent. We’re not what you think we are.” Following Alison’s appearance, Julia visibly panicked and felt the need to explain.
Alison was puzzled.
In an indifferent tone, she commented meaningfully, “You’ll probably sound more persuasive if you let go of his hand.”
While speaking, she headed toward the bed.
She could finally observe Julia’s appearance when she went close to her.
She looked friendly, gentle, and a little weak.
That was her first impression of Julia. No wonder Brayden can’t forget about her.
“Brayden…” Julia tightened her grip on Brayden’s hand with an aggrieved look.
Alison caught that and couldn’t help sneering at her inwardly. She could read Julia’s mind right away.
She is definitely anticipating me to throw a tantrum and cause a fuss in the ward, eventually infuriating Brayden.
However, Brayden thought Julia was merely afraid that Alison might embarra** her, hence he rubbed her back gently to comfort her. In an exceptionally mild tone, he rea**ured her, “It’s okay. I’m here.”
“Brayden Cornell.” Alison was disgusted by them. “Don’t forget I’m still here.”
How could he touch another woman right in front of her?! What am I, chopped liver?
Pretending not to hear her statement, he continued calming Julia down.
“For how long are you gonna stand there, Conner?” Alison spotted him outside from the corner of her eyes and was already on the verge of exploding.
After pushing the door in, he was still wondering how he was caught eavesdropping. “Yes, Mrs. Cornell?”
“Snap a photo of your boss flirting with another woman in front of me,” Alison instructed calmly. “I want to see whether Cornell Corporation’s stocks will be affected once news of the president of Cornell Corporation having an affair and cheating on his wife is released.”
Conner was shocked to hear that.
Please don’t get me involved, Mrs. Cornell, he begged silently.
“Brayden…” Julia hurriedly let go of Brayden’s hand with a pallid face.
“Have you had enough, Alison?” Brayden took a deep breath and caressed Julia’s back comfortingly. “I brought you here to apologize to Julia.”
Fishing her phone out, Alison turned on her camera. “I thought you brought me here to catch you guys cheating.”
As soon as she said that, the whole ward fell into complete silence.
“How do you think Madam Cornell would react if I sent her this?” Alison saved the video and shoved her phone into her bag.
Upon hearing that, Brayden looked even more hostile toward her.
Alison looked at his handsome face. Despite his indifference toward her, he was still an eye candy.
“Are you threatening me?”
“Oops, just joking. I think you two are a good match. I recorded the video to remind myself of what a great pair you two make,” Alison uttered in a nonchalant tone as she gazed at the two of them. “But are you sure you’re gonna talk to me like that?”
Brayden maintained his stance.
He made it clear that no matter what she said, he was going to stay with Julia.
“Alright, then.” Alison placed her bag down, leaving everyone puzzled.
Conner was the only one who panicked. His intuition told him that she was going to make a fuss!
Eventually, he was proven to be right.
Alison walked over to Conner and linked her arms to his. In a tone that was no different from before, she urged, “Go on, then. Make it quick because I have matters to discuss with Conner.”
Conner was baffled at her statement.
In an instant, he defended himself anxiously, a stark contrast to his usual calm and collected character. “Boss, Mrs. Cornell and I are innocent, I swear! I’ve never done anything guilty to you.”
“Why are you panicking?” Alison’s voice sounded comforting. “Why would a man like you be more fidgety than a young lady like Miss Shaw? Look at how calm she is.”
While Conner and Brayden choked at her statement, a viciousness glinted in Julia’s eyes.
However, Brayden was focusing too much on Conner and Alison’s linked arms to notice that.
“Conner.” His tone carried a hint of warning.
Conner wanted to pull his arm out of Alison’s grip, but he couldn’t!
He looked at Alison, who had a calm and collected expression, with a string of question marks in his mind.
How did she manage to hold him down with her strength?!
“Boss…” He was on the brink of tears as he plead, “There’s nothing between Mrs. Cornell and I.”
Brayden exuded a cold aura.
The next moment, he pulled a pillow and placed it behind Julia’s back. At the same time, he withdrew his hand from her back.
Alison raised a brow and pulled her arm out of Conner’s arm before grabbing a chair and taking a seat on it.
Conner narrowly escaped a catastrophe.
On the other hand, Julia noticed the tacit understanding between Alison and Brayden. It made her clench her fists unconsciously under the blanket.
“I heard from Brad that you accused me of hiring someone to run you down, and you even have evidence for it.” Alison purposely changed the way she addressed Brayden and pulled an unreadable expression. “Would you mind sharing the evidence with me?”
